Why we have an emotional connection to robots.
We’re far from developing robots that feel emotions, but we already have feelings towards them, says robot ethicist Kate Darling, and an instinct like that can have consequences. Learn more about how we’re biologically hardwired to project intent and life onto machines — and how it might help us…[Read more] -

Let your speed be the variable.
If you do this correctly, you should accelerate the lightest weights and heaviest weight at similar rates. Keep the focus on your body and your movement and gradually increase the explosiveness of your finish and your speed under the bar as you load more weight. -

Autofocusing reading glasses of the future.
As you age, you gradually lose the ability to refocus your eyes — a phenomenon as old as humanity itself — leading to a reliance on bifocals, contacts and procedures like LASIK surgery. Electrical engineer Nitish Padmanaban offers a glimpse of cutting-edge tech that’s truly a sight for sore eyes:…[Read more] -

My advice monster was delighted !
She started telling me what was going on, and I started to pretend to listen because, quite frankly, my advice monster already knew exactly what I wanted to tell her.
Finally, she finished so I was able to share my brilliant advice — — and make no mistake it was brilliant. But my advice went nowhere; my adv…[Read more]-

The problem isn’t with giving advice. Instead, the problem is when giving advice becomes our default response. There are three ways that advice giving goes bad.-

@melanie
We’re constantly feeding our advice monsters, and they’re insatiable. As soon as somebody starts talking, your advice monster looms up and goes “Oh, I’m going to add some value to this conversation, yes I am!” You need to learn to tame your advice monster, and in order to tame it, you have to understand it.

How To Keep The Bar Close In The Snatch ?
1. Assign tension properly; the easiest way to do this is to pull our lats down and towards the glutes. Imagine that we are bending the bar around the shins as we work to push the platform away from us with the middle of the foot.
2. Ensure that the momentum of the bar works up and back towards the body as…[Read more]-

When we see more than four degrees of horizontal displacement, that is the distance that the bar travels away from the body, the chances of making a successful attempt drop significantly.-

For example, here is a diagram drawn over a 157kg (354lb) Snatch by 2018 Pan American Champion Wes Kitts. This weight represents his final warm up attempt before opening the competition at 165kg (363lbs).

Two things are likely to happen, either the bar loops away from the body, causing us to miss the lift behind or the bar doesn’t achieve the height and momentum required to pull ourselves underneath, which in turn causes the bar to fall in front.

Why you should treat the tech you use at work like a colleague ?
Imagine your company hires a new employee and then everyone just ignores them, day in and day out, while they sit alone at their desk getting paid to do nothing. This situation actually happens all the time — when companies invest millions of dollars in new tech tools only to have…[Read more]-

So I should continue yelling at my computer?
In the last company i worked at, a local TV station, we used probably 50% of the equipment that was initially bought. It took enthusiastic employees to utilize anything more than what was absolutely essential.
